It is unlikely during short and controlled durations. Babies have a natural reflex -called ” The dive reflex ” and instinctively close their throat.
We understand that some babies may take a few weeks to settle, we usually start with one or more submersions but if you are unsure or if your baby seems distressed after a few weeks, we will refrain from submerging. The majority of babies do tolerate submersions well.
Catch up lessons are available if you have missed lessons due to illness or holiday. All absences must be reported in advance of lessons and we recommend this is done via the parent portal hub/app wherever possible. You can manage and book make ups using the app which will show all availability.
It is not wise to bring your child swimming with anything more than a very mild cold with no fever. Please consider the other children in your group as your child will spread infection and is unlikely to enjoy swimming if feeling fatigued or unwell.
If your child has an ear infection, please do not swim until it has fully cleared up and you have had clearance from a doctor. It is not likely to have been caused by swimming, however it will cause discomfort. The ear should be kept dry until any infection is fully clear. For repetative ear problems and infections please seek the advice from your GP or consultant about ear buds and bands.
Absolutely. Witnessing child progress, building connections allows us to build strong supportive relationships. We are key providers of enjoyment and love the rewarding nature of seeing children improve. Seeing their faces when they master a skill is so incredibly awesome. We celebrate their achievements just as much as you. Our passion for teaching a life skill drives us.

The answer is No. We always provide the necessary flotation aids in our learn to swim program. If your child may need extra buoyancy we will supply everything for the lesson. We use specific and consistent equipment.
A child who has enrolled in our parent and baby lessons will start to have solo lessons at around 2.5 months of age. Our aim is to make this transition from parent to independence as smooth as possible and will happily ‘wean’ the parent away over several lessons while building confidence.
For any child enrolling straight into our learn to swim program will start their journey independently from the age of 3. This is nothing to worry about. Most children reach a point where they are no longer progressing further with a parent holding them in the water. Most children at 3 want to just play and can get restless. This is a good indicator that your child is ready to take the next step on their own.

There are many reasons your baby may cry in the water. Some babies need to adjust to the new environment they are in, with the sounds, splashes and echoes around them. Think about the timing of your class, is it close to a feed or nap time and be aware of normal irritants such as teething.
Some babies go through a crying phase specific to swimming. This commonly happens around the age of 12 months and can seem frustrating if your baby has been very happy so far. It is important not to stop coming to classes during this time, your teacher has experienced this many times and can guide you through this phase. Your relaxed positive attitude will help and soothe your baby who will end up only crying when it is time to get out!
Babies can go swimming at any age, they do not need to have completed their course of immunisations.
Further research on this can be found on the NHS website www.immunisation.org.uk
